Inkjet Printers, Design and Printer Consumables

There are various kinds of printers in the world, the advent of 3D printing has taken the world by storm but a 3D Printer is not suitable for printing out paper efficiently as either an inkjet or a laser printer ever could. Inkjet printers are the cheapest varieties of printers and not surprisingly because of this they are also the most used varieties of printers being used.

ink jet printerAn inkjet printer works by propelling droplets of ink into the paper. The ink is released from small removable cartridges, ink cartridges which can be either black or white depending upon the type of printers. The inkjets can be of many types, the cheaper varieties and more professional quality mechanisms.

These printer consumables are made from different varieties of ink. The main components behind these inks are a mixture of water, glycol and dyes or pigments known as aqueous inks. They provide the most extensive colour gamut and vividness, but are not altogether waterproof.

In case of professional inkjet printers, they use different ink types so that the final products that come out are significantly better in quality. Mainly three different types of printers ink are used:

Solvent Inks: The main ingredient inside the solvent ink tanks are volatile organic compounds, organic chemical compounds that have high vapour pressures. Well one of the great advantages of these solvent inks is that they are relatively in expensive to create and have the inherent capacity to project printing on flexible, uncoated vinyl substances, that are used to produce vehicle graphics, billboards, banners and adhesive decals.

UV- Curable Inks: These things are mostly made up of acrylic monomers that are patched with an initiator package. Once printing has been finished, the ink on the pages is treated with UV Light. The advantages of an UV treated ink are that they can be easily applied to a wide range of uncoated substances, and will subsequently create a more robust image.

Dye sublimation Inks: Consisting of special sublimation dyes, which are used to print directly or indirectly on to polyester fabrics. Heating of these fibres will make it possible for the colour to be spread on the fabric and create images with strong colour and good durability.

Head Designs

There are several head designs:

printer headFixed Head – It provides an inbuilt print head with the intention of the lifelong endurance. It is advantageous because the print head need not to be replaced every time the ink runs out and there is greater precision. But if the printer head is damaged then it will be difficult to obtain a new print head and when that is not possible, then you would have to secure a new printer itself.

Disposable Head: When you have a disposable head for printers, then it is possible for you to replace every time your ink cartridge runs out or get a new one. As an inversion of the previous point of fixed heads, if the head is somehow damaged then there is the possibility of changing the head, but having to purchase the head every time with the new cartridge the price of purchasing printer consumables will go up.

Drying Ink

There is the problem drying ink that is a constant nagging for inkjet printer users. The problem arises when the ink inside the inkjet printers starts to dry at the tip of the inkjet’s print head which leads the pigments and the dye to form hardened mass inside the passageways. Although people attempt to prevent this from ever happening by covering the printer head with a rubber cap.

The best mechanism to combat this is to apply a softener to remoisten the printhead. The ink itself is sprayed into the nozzles, which fires all at once, and the ink slowly makes it way down the nozzle and softens the hardened ink. Then a rubber wipe blade is used to sweep across the printhead so that the moisture is evenly spread. The final process is to fire the nozzles again, this time all the ink clumps are dislodged out of the channels.

Advantages: Inkjet printers have a lot of advantages, especially when compared to the other older models of printers.

Inkjets printers are significantly quieter in operation and are able to print soother and finer details with higher print head resolution that can create photographic-quality prints.

Inkjet printers are relatively cheaper than other printers

Most inkjet printers are lightweight and compact, taking up very little space.

Disadvantages: Cost of refilling can be very high as genuine cartridges are relatively expensive and if the fake ones are used instead, this may damage the hardware

The ink cartridges often contain a small microchip inside of it that transit information into the computer, and like every other electronic device, these are susceptible to malfunction. It may send an n error message that there is no ink left, even though there is ink left.

printer consumablesSince the printer consumables, i.e. the ink cartridges, contain nozzles inside them, they can quite easily be clogged. Therefore there needs to be regular maintenance to make sure that there is no obstruction in the passage of the printer. Although there is an automatic system in place that will see to that there is no clogging, there are models which may require you to dismantle the items so that they could be cleaned.

The inkjet printers are relatively very convenient to use and extremely lightweight and compact. They are still the most popular version of printers being sold around the world, and it is unlikely they will be abandoned overnight. Depending upon the budget that you have for to purchase and maintain, as well as the circumstances that you are presented, choosing an Inkjet will be good.
